Anime/Manga Review: A Certain Series

Yo. I'm back to using this site as a means to relieve my literary steam. So... if you're not into that stuff, keep calm and move along.

Anyway, where was I?

Ah yes, A Certain Magical Index/Scientific Railgun/Scientific Accelerator.

On the subject of Japanese media, I've recently gotten increasingly frustrated with the whole light novel-manga-anime translation routine. Light novels translate to anime faster than manga, and anime in...

Manga Review: Assassination Classroom

Picture this: You're a junior high student of the reject class, so rejected and frowned upon by the others that your class is set miles away from the original campus in the mountainside, and the other students use you as a stepping stone to success.

On the other hand, there's a tentacle monster who just destroyed most of the moon. He threatens to do the same with Earth in a year's time; the world governments have placed a ten billion yen...

Manga Review: D-Frag

D-Frag is about a school thug who learns that he's actually the least messed up person in the entire school. And he learns that the hard way when a strange girl puts a bag over his head, another one punches him in the face, a third splashes water on him and the fourth, a teacher, sticks him with a taser.

Despite sounding like something 'Murica does in its free time, it's actually a lot less disturbing and a lot more comical. It takes itself...

Manga Review: Pandora Hearts

Pandora Hearts is one of those in medias res, Alice in Wonderland, everything's fucked up kind of manga. It starts out with a kid getting pulled into a proverbial hell because his sin is "his existence". When he gets out with the help of a strange girl who's also apparently a murderous rabbit, he finds himself ten years in the future and things only get stranger from there.

That's the basic gist of it.

I believe that it is an interesting...

RWBY: Team CILK Intro: Chapter 3

Bullets sprayed down a hallway, blind fire that hit all of nothing. The echo of gunfire gave way to eerie silence; a nervous thug couldn’t bear the silence, and shot another burst from his rifle.

“Show yourself!” The man screamed. “We know you’re in here!”

But only stony silence responded.

His comrade shoved him rudely. “Hey dumbass!” He said. “Don’t fire until you get a lead on your...

RWBY: Team CILK Intro: Chapter 2

Da-dum da-dum da-dum

The sound of drums poured into his ears, his daily alarm emanating from his scroll. With a groggy blink and a bitter yawn, the unkempt, black-haired youth slowly rose from his bed. Fumbling with the adjacent desk, he managed to turn off the wake-up call, slowly becoming more aware of his surroundings as he blinked his orange eyes a few more times.

He was in a jail cell. Once the closed steel-plated doors held...

RWBY: Team CILK Intro: Chapter 1

“Ya can’t catch me, coppers!”

Under the dimly lit streets of Atlas, a young girl flitted through the shadows of the night. Not far behind, a scattering of searchlights panned the area in pursuit, followed by the collective footsteps of a squad of law enforcers. The metallic streets might be stylized and furnished to the brim with technology, but clever delinquents who knew the limits of that technology could easily use the...

Preface: RWBY: Team CILK

Hey yo all!

It's been a while--a long while--since I wrote somethin' here decent. So I'm probably going to continue that streak with some more crap.

If you've kept up with my blogs since MMOTales times, you'd know I'm not what some would call an "optimistic" person. But such is life, such is mine, and I'm not going to let my realism get in the way of doing whatever I do (or at least, I try not to let it interfere too much).

Ergo, I'm...

It's a blog, happy?

So it appears that we've converged for some reason. I'm pretty sure David's gathering us so he can kill us and sacrifice our blood to the blood god or something.

In any case, I don't really have the time to blog extensively because classes have started again. Y'know, programming, math, econometrics, that kind of stuff.

I'm still of the opinion that I can't write a good story for shit, so I probably won't.

I do have a blog elsewhere...

Like a Sad Sack of Shit.

I feel absolutely terrible.

I just took a test on service management, followed by intermediate economics. I thought I had them both. I’d been studying quite hard for all of my exams. My sleep cycle is, for the moment, obliterated.

So why do I have this feeling that I did shit?

Maybe it’s because it was shit. On my service management exam, I forgot to thumb through one chapter to refresh my memory. The moment I saw the section, my...

Friends and Foes: Gaming the Multiplayer

If any one aspect of gaming was most contested, it would definitely have to be the multiplayer (mind the pun). The capacity to cooperate, coordinate, and compete with friends and strangers alike is quite understandable; after all, we are social creatures, and what better way to incentivize games than to have the ability to socialize in them? Whether it's helping a stranger pass a difficult section or teabagging your friends over a betrayal,...

Glitchin' and Twitchin': Gaming the Errors

We are not gods. Well, except the delusional ones. They're gods in their own little world. But for the rest of us, we recognize that not everything can be absolutely, positively perfect, completely bulletproof, watertight and shielded on all sides. Games are no exception; even with all sorts of testing and refining, some unintentional consequences are going to slip through the cracks. And these things are... interesting, to say the least....

Microtransactions: The Devil's Advocate

Microtransactions. How many a game has had one of these doohickeys implemented. It's almost universal for any phone and tablet game app. Many MMOGs have one of these, especially the free ones.

And they're terrible.

It's peculiar how they're beneficial for both the game developer and the players, yet they are overall bad. The company gets money, often major money, and the players get cosmetics and sometimes even gamechanging goods; what...

A First Impressions Review: RWBY

RWBY (pronounced "ruby") is an animated series by Roosterteeth, the organization that brought us the vulgar and comedic Red vs. Blue. It is the brainchild of Monty Oum, who does much of the CG for Red vs. Blue.

RWBY takes place in a universe that is inhabited by some sort of "darkness", where humanity was able to overcome these obstacles with a miraculous substance called "dust" (and no, it's not a drug, least, no so far is the story goes)....

Balancing the Scales: Gaming the Economy

I'd think that a decade ago, back when the term "MMORPG" was still a relatively new term, or at the very least an aspiring market in its own right, game developers never knew what they were getting into when they built their in-game economies. Capitalistic, it'd likely be, but the details were anybody's guess.

Now, in good ol' 2013, it appears that a mostly capitalistic system reigns over most games. They follow a basic supply-and-demand...

Is it ironic that the most activity to come was from presuming a bot was an actual person?
