Black Friday Prospects

Mon Nov 07, 2011 01:03 AM +

Hiya, fellas. It's me again.

Anyway, I'm sure some of you will invest your time into buying some gadget or doodad that you probably won't need during Black Friday just because the prices are low and the sales are great. This would be a nice place for you to organize your thoughts (and for fellow members to chastise you for them).

Anyway, what'd be a good reliable laptop that might run for about $200 during the sales days? I'm looking for a Windows tool, one that could run, say, Maplestory, or functions of similar stress. I'm hoping that this unit would last a good few years (being the optimist for once, I hope for a unit that will run a good five years before dying unceremoniously).

Have any idea?

$200 sounds pretty optimistic for a decent computer. I don't know if you'll be able to find anything that cheap. And even if you did, the specs probably won't be that high so shelf life might not be that great. It'd be outdated almost as soon as you got it. Granted, you don't need the most amazing computer in the world to run MS, so your best bet is probably to shop around and find the cheapest deal you can get. But if you want something that'll last a few years, I would definitely recommend thinking about investing a little bit more to get a better laptop.

The best thing you'll get with $200 is a netbook. Like AznRiceFan said, just try and get a 100 dollars more and buy a better laptop

Well, I'm open to another hundred, so long the shelf life is worth it. Antiquity of a computer doesn't mean much when it comes to gaming or basic functions; every windows from like 98 or 93 on had the office bundle, and anything at least XP will run games smoothly (processor notwithstanding). I have a netbook, and jesus, it takes 15 minutes to load MS.

Netbooks aren't worth it. And all new computers will come with an Office 2010 bundle, but it will be a 60 day trial.

Black Friday is insane. Like, it's actually insane. That's why Cyber Monday is my preferred deal finding day!

Hmm. Good to know. We have something like Black Friday here, the day after Christmas, but I find that the sales for it are getting less and less great as the years go. And shopping is really only worth it for electronics in the first place, the deals on clothes and stuff are never that amazing - they just put out of season stuff for sale

Forgot about Cyber Monday. Are the deals then usually better? It's been almost a year since the last one.

I got a Fujitsu AH530 notebook for < $300. It can run SC2, LoL, Dragon Nest, Vindictus, all with good fps.
And it's integrated ha. Battery life is pretty shitty though.
