The following is a short piece of fiction that I wrote when I was mad at my dad. (Yeah, I have no idea how being mad at my dad gave birth to this O_o)
The sound of short intermittent beeps from his vitals monitor insisted that he was alive, but Shale wasn't so sure. He had to force himself to remember to breathe as he marveled at the sight before him. Thousands of miles "below" him, the green-blue beauty of the planet Earth twirled below him. The immense ball of ocean and rock upon which he'd walked for the thirty years he'd lived now appeared to him as a disk through his visor, its various storms, which were even now wreaking havoc upon the people caught in them, looked like little more than animated strokes of an artist's brush. Its mountains, only scaled by the few and the brave, appeared as small bumps upon its surface. He could see the east coast of the United States, and the continent of Europe, thousands of miles apart, yet the distance crossed by a minute flick of his eyes. Billions of men, women, and children worked, played, relaxed, and fought below him even now, all on this little speck of dirt orbiting around a burning flame in the midst of the cold, dark, endless expanse of space...
