Q: Is there an altogether different personality you have IRL? Do you talk/laugh/sing/dance/breath/spell/write/see/[insert verb of choice] differently? Or are you a well-balanced, single (or simple)-minded person in both dimensions?A:
Yes, when I first started online games (my first game was Runescape) I thought it was entering a new world. I was really happy how much freedom you could have, by knowing new people and having fun. In real life I am really quiet and quite anti-social
--whereas online I’m like: OMG HI!111ONE!111ONE1!
The start of gaming was a nice experience ^^…
Runescape: Getting gold by collecting bananas from a banana plantation (My parents laughed when they heard about it)
Maplestory: Hitting on random girls by using lame pick up lines. Most start with “Hey hotty”
RebirthRO: Collecting royal jellies from enchanted peach trees and zipper bears with RL friends
Despite being a waste of time with little gain besides entertainment, I don’t regret having some of those experiences. Right now, I stopped my hardcore gaming and just play WC3 and Gunbound with friends I know IRL when free. I really doubt doing these kinds of things IRL
I believe online interaction is a
negative reinforcement (Something that gives you escape from a unpleasant stimulus, therefore encourages you to do it) for people who are bad at socializing, like myself. It's a form of escapism from reality, because you can mostly do whatever you want without much hesitation because you don't have to face people and people don’t face you, and hence, online interaction is like a completely different world.
However, when it comes to morals, then socializing in real life, in some cases, is definitely better than socializing online…
Also by playing Maplestory I got know MMOtales and you guys so.. Wouldn't THAT be a GOOD THING? :D
