but:
Welcome to the world of Maple Story:
First it will seem like an awesome game, as if its the greatest thing in the world, then you will become addicted, and MS will take over your life. Your guild will replace your family and your job in MS will overrule school and work. Eventually after months or years of grinding the inevitable will happen - you will become so sick of Maple and all the trolls, spammers and flamers who play it, and you will realize that even though it's "Free", the game and XP rates are designed solely for the purpose of requiring you to steal a credit card and buy NX so you can:
1 Sell your stuff in the FM without having to constantly spam and use the talk bubble as a sign and repeatedly type "@@@@" to make it bigger every 2 seconds.
2 Buy Gachapon tickets in hoping that you get something worth at least a few million mesos and end up with ores or noob sandles
3 Get scroll/tickets that increase your XP rate for a set few hours during the day
4 Spend NX points on clothes, wings, and other pixel junk that expire in 30-90 days.
5 be called an NX hoar by those who can't afford it or just use their NX to pay for the 90 day license to sell stuff in the free market.
6 get busted for stealing the credit card in the first place.
You will also find out how just nasty most Maplers on any given server can get, especially if you PQ (party quest, as in go in a group, solve puzzles, kill a giant boss)
and don't understand what you're supposed to do.
You will also HAVE to looked up a skill building guide that will instruct you on how set your stats and abilities, because if you dont, your toon will be screwed eternally and be cursed with doing less damage than the guy 10 levels lower than you. It will cost 300 NX to re-locate a single stat. Or else you may as well delete the character or use it as a loot mule.
Popping snails and giant jumping mushrooms for hours on end may seem like fun at first, see how you feel about killing the same mobs over and over when you reach level 90.
Everyone grinds to reach the glory of the "Hi Levels". The level cap is 200. but even at the high level, the grind gets longer, loonger and looonger. And even at 90 you still won't be able to get into a Zakum PQ because those who live in MS have monopolized the dungeon and you will require connections and a buttload of mesos to get in, and even then you will likely be replaced by someone else.
The first guy to reach level 200 was "MrYaNdAo" on MapleSEA (Singapore servers) in fall 2006. I checked the MapleSEA rankings over the course of the summer and in July 06 he was 197 or 198. It took them 2+ months to get this toon to 200. Three people grinded in rotating 8-hour shifts non-stop for months. He was worshipped as a god for a brief time before others in MapleSEA and GMS (Global Maple or North American Maple) began hitting 200.
And from what i know, mobs only give a few hundred xp each. So a level 121 will have 7,068,722XP, and that is still 28.18% of what's required to reach level 122.
