I really don't know what prompted me to write this, but yeah. I wrote it on a whim; interpret it as you will.


A heavy sigh escapes from his lips.

All around him is the sound of silence, resonating in his ears.

He picks himself up and adopts a standing position because, for one reason or another, he has been lying on the ground for the longest time. But then again, time is a subjective quantity. His legs automatically move one step at a time, and he wanders aimlessly; the sound of his feet hitting the ground is the only escape from the silence.

The silence is overwhelming, but he will learn to cope with it in time. That is what he tells himself to ease the loneliness.

The cloudless sky seems to stretch infinitely, in all possible directions; the landscape never changing, no matter what direction his feet carry him in. Everywhere he looks, the same scene appears before him; the blue sky, and the green grass that extends forever. Not even a simple breeze grazes his face.

He stops abruptly, evidently tired from his trek.

“Hello?”

The silence reigns.

“Hello?” A desperate plea.

There is not even an echo to answer him.

A whimper is produced, and then a single tear falls down his face. He drops to his knees; the pain that should be there is noticeably absent.

He is alone.
