INTERNET SAFETY HERP DERP.

Written by testicular on January 6, 2010
SCHOOL IS BACK.

I've been really bored recently. Time to find something to complain about.

I hate it when people flip a bitch at me about internet safety.

You heard of the 16-year-old kid who met up with a 42-year-old woman who was his RP girlfriend on WoW? My parents and my grandma have been obsessing over it for the past few days as if I've never heard of shit like this before.

Don't you hate it too? I've had them following me around for the past week asking me my opinion on this and telling me not to date 50-year-old men on the internet. Now let me ask you, am I stupid? Yes, I know I'm 12 and all that shit. But do you honestly think if a random guy I don't know asked me out on a video game, I'd accept? Hell no. I'm not a dumbass.

And I can't even remember how many times I've been told "Don't give out your name or photo on the internet!" Alright. My name is Sofia. I've got a photo up on my myspace. Now tell me my address, phone number and home town. What? You can't?! THEN WHY IS IT SO DANGEROUS TO PUT THAT OUT THERE?!

I can't tell you all how much I hate all this "internet safety" bullshit. I'm not going to end up like that kid. I know shit about privacy. I've started to get so pissed off over parents obsessing about internet safety that I have to restrain myself from screaming when I hear a little kids' commercial that ends with "ASK YOUR PARENTS BEFORE GOING ONLINE."

Honestly. It's really pissing me off how people think I'm stupid enough to do something like what that kid did. My grandma's been hovering over me while I play WoW for the past couple days saying "ARE YOU TALKING TO A MAN. ARE YOU TALKING TO A MAN. CAN I PLAY WITH YOU. ARE YOU TALKING TO A MAN." And my dad's been clogging up my email inbox with "I'M NOT GOING TO MAKE A BIG DEAL ABOUT THIS BUT WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THIS KID WHO DID THIS SHIT? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. HUH? LOL I BET MARTIN LUTHER KING WOULD GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THIS KID" (I told him MLK was my role model. Because he's the closest thing I have to one.)

LIKE REALLY. AM I STUPID? I DON'T KNOW VUTALES, YOU TELL ME.

You're 12... and yet your name is testicular...

You're either very mature for your age... or very, uh, "mature" for your age.

Parents tend to be protective until you have a job, a wife and are over 21.

Gen'ralization.

I didn't even notice, and although I didn't fell off my chair, I did chuckle amusingly.

If your kid wants to skateboard, are you going to let him, knowing full well that he could hurt himself?
No, you're just going to tell him to be careful and send him on his way. Let him learn lessons on his own, don't hold his his entire life.

Protection =/= Re-Education Through Labor

Also, don't upload a picture from a device that can be location tracked, like an iPhone.
Bad things happen.
