Nobody.
The piece starts off with the dancer’s head and hands down to show the dancer’s introverted self first arriving in an unfamiliar society. The hands emerge out to show the beginning of his/her adventures. The movements are bound, heavy, and flow and the spacing is in a circular motion because I want the audience to have the feeling of being lost and in need of support. I played with the musicality of my song by hitting the accents with strong, percussive movements. I want the accents of the song to show the internal pain I’ve had as a young child having no friends; as a social outcast. I especially like the accent hits. According to my previous feedback, it effectively shows my intended message. The movements eventually turn from bound and heavy to free and light to show that I no longer want to be a nobody. I want to be a somebody.
Thus leads to the section of the piece where the dancer finally opens, suspends, and thrown back into heavy and bound which shows the community (that surrounds me) is against me. I turn from high-middle level and fast movements to low level and slow floor movements to show that I had given up on attempting socializing, but I also played around with a few fast and percussive movements in order to express the urge try again.
The ending of the piece returns to the same position as dancer started out, with the exception that he/she is sitting. Then the dancer blows his/her hand back into the introverted position; as if I was blowing out a candle and putting my past behind me. The use of repeating the intro and ending, according to my previous feedback, has left the audience with the reminiscence of their own
Nobody.
My school's dance production ended last week. The show was a great success! But I'm always left out in the crew.
I posted the video because my next blog is gonna be about how I felt after each show, whereas the other dancers were greeted by their family and friends with flowers, hugs, and photos while I was just standing there at the side. It maybe a happy moment because of the standing ovation; but, like last year, I was extremely depressed and disappointed because my family never came to watch any of my dance shows.
