What is 15 + 4? (Sorry, we have to ask)

Don't die Nass.

Written by Nass on November 17, 2009
So, today is my birthday.

I only had three periods to stay for, because after lunch (1pm around) I was dipping to go get my shot.

So I show up to school right? Start walking to my locker. When I hear:
"He's there. He's there."

Acting like I didn't hear, I keep my pace and keep walking. When I heard them planning, I started running.
Running down the hallway and into the girls locker room. School wasn't started yet, so no one was there. ( )
But I knew no one in the world would look for me there.

The rest of my periods were boring. They blazed through.

At lunch, my friends and I were talking about the nastiest thing we ever saw.

Lord have mercy.

After, I was walking around, just listening to music. I purposely ditched my friends for some alone time.

And well, the best thing about birthdays.

Is that everyone (including me) tries so hard to make the person's day just that much better.

I ended up outside on the grass, just staring up at the blue sky.

I closed my eyes. Last night...what was I doing? It was the last day you were 14.
I pondered and cranked up the volume of my music. Oh, chilling with David.
And now my first day of being 15, I'm here, laying in the grass.

In the distant, I heard the school bell ring.

Time to get my shot :(

Me and Devon stood at the bus stop. And this girl came to join us, her name was Sarah. I slightly knew her last year.
She's on the druggie and smoker side of my school. She talked with Devon and me for a bit.
Her opinions on the H1N1 shot are kind of far fetched to be honest...
"Smoking isn't worse than getting the shot." She had said.
"Not even." Devon replied. "Smoking. Gets you killed."
"The doctors are quacks, they give you too much of the virus. You're at a greater risk of getting killed."
"It's all planned and stuff. Nothing will happen." I said looking at Sarah, who was carving her name in the bus shelter bench.
"I smoke. I'm not dead." She said.
"You're young." Devon said.
"You should stop smoking." I added.
She shrugged. And that kinda ended our conversation until the bus came.

When we got on, she started up again.
"You're gonna get sick." She said.
"Sometimes, in life, you gotta take risks." Devon said. "If this means I gotta get sick to get better. I'm down for it."
I nodded. "And even if we die today, at least they will know now the vaccine isn't safe. It will save people."
The bus rounded into the mall area. We got off.
"Just don't die guys." She said, looking between the both of us. "Please, don't die okay?"

Like I said, I sort of think she's going too far. But that sentance hit me like a freight train.

To have a person who I barely met. Someone I haven't even accepted into my life. Placed my trust in, hell, I'm not even sure if she knows my name.
But to have someone ask something that important of us, just warms me.

Then I realized. Something I haven't seen in all my years of living; life is beautiful.

I nodded and flashed a confident smile. "We'll see you tomorrow."
We both went our separate ways.

We got to the center. We had to get this little blue coupon. And then hand it in to get our forms. From there we had to hand in our Medicare cards, and fill out this other form.
They were basic questions like "Are you pregnant?" "Allergic to eggs?" stuff like that. Until the last question came around.

"I am fully aware of the symptoms of H1N1, I am also aware that this vaccine may cause some side effects. I am informed of them and I know that this will not garentee my safety. I should still take precautions before coming in contact with anyone or anything. "
^More or less like that.

I looked at Devon. "Ready?"
He looked at me. "Time to be sick." I grinned. We checked "Yes" and went into the vaccination room.

What I felt was, the needle going in. I felt the liquid being pushed into my arm. Then I got this sudden dizziness. Something like that never happened before. Then after I felt like I was lit on fire. By now I was done, so I went into the waiting room to wait for Devon.
I started panting for air. Damn, it was mad hot. I took off my hoodie. And tried airing out my shirt.
Devon came in after, sat beside me and passed out. Trying not to make a scene, I leaned him on my shoulder and tried sleeping myself.

We woke up a few mins later and walked home.

The H1N1 virus is no different than any other type of flu, except that it's more contagious, is all. I got the shot. I felt like sh*t for two days. Then I got sick because I didn't get enough sleep... XD

But I'm good now.

Well done boy, you've found out half the truth. Now, find the other half.

Hang on, let me fix that for you.

"The school or ministry is not responsible for anything that happens to you."
There, much simpler.

I'm safe where i am, i think. Haven't heard of anyone getting a shot for that here. Maybe just those sick ones. I dont believe in shots much anyway. I used to go for a chicken pox shot, but i still got it in the end. I was that 0.3% or some shit.
